Morepork/Ruru (Ninox novaeseelandiae) Ohakune 2024 This beautiful Manu surprised me by being perched in the middle of the day under the canopy of a low tree on the edge of the Tongariro National Park. Any sighting, interaction of these mystical birds is a thrill and as I took my position to take the shot the bird's piercing yellow eyes met mine as if to say "close enough."

Kaka on Flax at Tauwharanui (Nestor meridionalis) This was my first visit to the Tauwharanui Regional Park in Auckland. It was early summer and the flax was in full flower. Seeing such a beautiful bird so relaxed with my presence chomping on the flowers only metres away was an absolute surprise. An ionic bird of Aotearoa on an iconic plant.....a shot I never thought I would have the opportunity to capture.
Mallard Duck (Anas platyrhynchos) takes a shower under a culvert outlet. This image is part of my Urban Birding Selection that I try to capture the essence of birds familiar to us in urban environments, with an attempt to make the familiar a little bit different. This female is taking a shower along the Wellington waterfront near Te Papa
